There’s something very comforting about a cake you don’t have to think about. Just whisk together the ingredients and somehow, it turns into something beautiful and delicious. Soft vanilla cake with winding ribbons of chocolate cake running through it.
I like to finish this marble cake with a simple chocolate glaze, dotted with toasted coconut, but it’s really not necessary. It’s just as good without—simple, soft, and quietly sweet.
And yes, it’s only 5 ingredients. No oil. The richness comes from the cream, so it’s important to use full fat here (32-38%) and not swap in something lighter in its place. If you’d like a dairy-free version, coconut cream works beautifully (just make sure it has at least 17% fat).
- If you’re in the mood for a plain vanilla cake, simply skip the cocoa.
